We provide the opportunity to expand or enhance your knowledge through a variety of professional development courses and workshops while earning continuing education credits (CEUs) or academic credit. CEU requests must be made within one week of the workshop or course end date.

Online Central California Advanced Placement® Summer Institute

Gain insight into Advanced Placement course frameworks, exams and new AP resources with the Advanced Placement Summer Institute to help plan and focus your AP instruction. Earn the FINRA Securities Industry Essentials Certification Exam before you graduate

The FINRA Securities Industries Essentials (SIE) Exam is the first certification exam for licensing in the finance industry. By preparing for and taking this exam now while you're finishing up your bachelor's degree, you can elevate your resume to stand out from the competition. We've partnered with Achievable to offer these exam certifications through their innovative online learning system with over an 85% pass rate.

Many entry-level financial positions also require additional exam series based on their specialty. The SIE Exam is closely related to the material taught in ECON 105 Corporate Finance and other finance courses, so make sure you take ECON 105 first before signing up for this exam prep. Achievable online access includes everything you need to prepare for this important exam.

Establishing a Successful Small Business

Do you want to pay yourself while doing what you love? Then why not let your passion become your business. This 6-week online course is designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of starting your own business. You'll learn what it takes to develop a business, from developing the concept to business planning and logistics, marketing, cash flow and funding. The weekly course with instructor Rhonda Lowe of the UC Merced Small Business Development Center is $65 for the six sessions.

American Heart Association (AHA) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training

UC Merced Extension offers a monthly AHA CPR Certification non-credit offering with instructor Raj Mehat-Murphy, LVN, M.Ed. The in-person 4-hour training sessions will be held on campus. A $60 fee includes the cost of the CPR Certification Card.

If you are currently in our Teacher Preparation Program, verification of CPR training that meets the standards set by the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association is needed prior to your final semester of Clinical Practice ( EDUCX 302/305).

California Teaching Performance Assessment (CalTPA) Seminar

This seminar is for teacher candidates who have completed their coursework and need to complete their CalTPA assessments as state-mandated for Multiple and Single Subject Credential Program candidates. The seminar is comprised of two sequential modules of six weekly online sessions each and are taught by Diana Saucedo-Nunez, M.Ed., Associate Director | Teacher Preparation Program. The cost is $200 per six-week session.

District Professional Development

Extension's Education Programs provide district professional development for P-12 educators in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) to facilitate their transition to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and their integration with the California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Mathematics, English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Science, Science, and Technical Subjects. These opportunities for professional development may result in CEUs or academic credit, depending on the district and course content.

Academic Credit and Transcripts

Professional development programs wishing to offer academic credit can propose a course to UC Merced Extension.

One (1) semester academic credit is equivalent to 15 hours (classroom lecture), 45-hour academic course formats (workshops, reading, research, lesson design, classroom implementation, etc.) or any combination, all of which are embedded with performance assessments. Academic professional development courses in the discipline of education are $150 per unit, or $450 for a 3 unit course. 

You can order a copy of your transcripts online. Transcripts are $12 each.
